Raising a Child in a house of different beliefs

Post by muitto on Thu Jun 27, 2013 2:31 am

This is a little far-off for me because my son is still 2, but I am wondering if there are any Dad's on here who have to deal with wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc. that share different religious beliefs than you. If so how is this dealt with when raising a child. I am an atheist, probably more agnostic, but I am not for sure. My wife, well let's just say she has her own mix of many beliefs. She plans on raising our child with her beliefs in mind, but I do not know how I will respond to my son if he asks me stuff. Should I just say, "Ask mommy?" Or should I share my views?

I would say that you should both share your views with your child, and when the child is old enough, allow him to make his own choices regarding religion. In my experience, if you try to force something upon your child, they will be more likely to rebel against you. Hope this helps.
